But whatever former things I had that might have been gains to me, I have come to consider as [a]one combined] loss for Christ's sake. Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One),
[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly]
Phillipians 3 v 7, 8, 10 (AMP)
Since the new year God has been bringing me back to this Scripture. I believe He is showing me that His desire for me is to know Him in the way that Paul did; so intimately that he was able to consider his own life and pursuits as nothing.
As he says earlier in Phillipians, "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain". To him Christ was all in all. To know Christ for him was such an experience that he could see that when Christ is all, you have all.
I have been very blessed over these months with this Scripture, and with God showing me different things, further showing me that I will only be truly as peace when Christ is all, on truly content when Christ is everything.
I know that such a walk is possible, otherwise God would not reveal such a thing to me. I thank Him for showing me the way He desires for me to walk in such a closeness to Him, fully embracing the gift of eternal life which, as Jesus stated in John 17 v 3, is to know God and Christ.
Paul was living eternal life to the full, and even then he says that he had not fully attained it but pressed on towards the mark. This shows us that a relationship with Christ is an ever increasing experience, never boring, never dull, always exciting, and it will continue for eternity.
Such a gift, such an offer, to be in a living, intimate, growing relationship with the Almighty God; Father, Son and Spirit. This life will free you from all worry, because when you walk so close with Christ you know that He will supply all your need, you won't consider your own life, but let Him care for you.
Such a life should be the desire of all God's children, so I thank God that He has shown me this, and will give me the strength that I need to live it.
I'll finish with four points that God has shown me.
A relationship with God must be:
1) Personal
2) Practical
3) Progressive
4) Precious
I'll go into detail about these at a later date.
Blessings.
