If only ...... a Bible

People sometimes say to me "if only I had faith like you, if only I could believe like you do" That sounds as though faith in God is something that I have developed a bit like being able to play guitar - something I have a natural gift for and I get better with practice. In reality though my faith in God is a response to him. It's not something I am clever enough to get. It's a response! God spoke to me, He showed me who He is and when I saw that faith in Him was the only response I could make.

Did God open up a cloud and give me a sneak preview of heaven, did He physically walk in to my home and talk to me? No. He showed me who He is in simpler ways than that. It was partly by what I saw of God in other people who called themselves Christians. That was part of it, but the main way God spoke to me was through reading the Bible. God went to a lot of trouble to give us the Bible so that He could talk to us just as if He were sitting in the room.

Have you ever thought "I'd believe if God showed Himself to me!" Have you ever given Him an opportunity to show Himself to you by reading the Bible with an open mind to hear God?
